This year, Virginia Democrats have an opportunity to earn a majority in the House of Delegates. It is not going to be easy, which is why great Democrats around the state are standing up and fighting for you and me.

Here in the 33rd House of Delegates District, we have a candidate who knows about fighting for what you believe in, Mike Turner. This American veteran has been standing strong for America his whole life. His fellow veterans have recognized his smarts, his wisdom and his service, and are answering his call to service with service of their own.

On the 6th anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq, they endorsed Mike for Delegate.

On this, the sixth anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq, we are joining together to endorse a local candidate - a veteran - who has earned our trust and our respect and deserves your vote in November. Retired Air Force Colonel Mike Turner is the Democratic candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates from the 33rd District.

Since March 20th, 2003, over 4,000 men and women in uniform have lost their lives in Iraq. Over 30,000 more have been wounded, many of them egregiously. Their lives and the lives of their families have been forever altered by their great sacrifice.

As we pause today to reflect on the history of this conflict, we are drawn naturally to consider the nature of the public discourse which led us into this war. America's men and women in uniform ask little of their civilian leadership. They ask that they and their families be taken care of in war's aftermath, and they ask that their elected leaders be guided in their decisions by the same honesty, integrity, and sense of obligation that guided our heroes in the course of serving our nation.

Mike Turner has lived by that code for his entire life. As a helicopter pilot flying air rescue missions in Alaska, a fighter pilot flying over Northern Iraq, a nonprofit leader in the Red Cross helping disaster victims, or as an advocate for wounded warriors, Mike has always strived to meet the highest standards of public service. He will be a strong voice for veterans in Virginia's House of Delegates working hard to ensure that Virginia's veterans are provided with the tools and resources necessary to build successful lives and careers when they return home.

And we know that Mike will never forget who he works for-you, his family, his neighbors, his friends, his community. Mike is a proven leader with a track record of problem solving. He will bring new ideas to Richmond and fight for pragmatic solutions to the challenges we face across the Commonwealth.

Porn Is A Conservative Value

We all know that conservative states have the highest divorce rates, but did you know that they also subscribe to online porn at a higher frequency than average?

Note, a "subscription" as referred to below is a subscription to an online adult entertainment network the author studied for this research.

As shown in Table 4, subscriptions are also more prevalent in states where surveys indicate conservative positions on religion, gender roles, and sexuality. In states where more people agree that “Even today miracles are performed by the power of God” and “I never doubt the existence of God,” there are more subscriptions to this service. Subscriptions are also more prevalent in states where more people agree that “I have old-fashioned values about family and marriage” and “AIDS might be God’s punishment for immoral sexual behavior.” Survey results come from the Pew Value Surveys (1987–2007 combined dataset).

I experimented with a number of other variables, but did not find statistically significant results. In the 13 states that forbade sodomy immediately prior to Lawrence v. Texas (2003), subscriptions to this adult entertainment service are more prevalent than in other states, but insignificantly so. Furthermore, I found no significant relationship between subscriptions to this adult entertainment service and presidential voting in 2004, based on poll data by congressional district. However, using individual-level data from a Hitwise sample of ten million anonymized U.S. Internet users, Tancer (2008), finds that adult escort sites are more popular in “blue” states that voted for Gore in 2004, while visitors from the “red” states that voted for Bush in 2004 are more likely to visit wife-swapping sites, adult webcams, and sites about voyeurism. - Benjamin Edelman, "Red (Light) States"

Of course, the lede is buried at the bottom: "...visitors from the “red” states that voted for Bush in 2004 are more likely to visit wife-swapping sites..." Not only higher divorce rates, but a penchant for wife-swapping websites? I wonder if anyone's looked at whether there's a statistically significant correlation there.

Stimulus Helps Leesburg Clinic

Not too long ago, candidate Obama came to Leesburg to speak about the change he wanted to bring to America. He spoke about the needs going unmet and the services at risk in a time of economic recession. Today, President Obama and the Democractic Congress came to the aid of Leesburg in the form of a grant for our local health clinic.

Virginia is getting $5.76 million from the federal stimulus package for five government health clinics.

U.S. Sens. Mark Warner and Jim Webb and Rep. Gerald Connolly announced the release of the funds Monday.

Their offices say the money is going to the Greater Prince William Community Health Center in Woodbridge, Loudoun Community Health Center in Leesburg and Vernon J. Harris East End CHC in Richmond. Also receiving funds are Central Virginia Health Services in New Canton and Daily Planet in Richmond. - WTOPnews.com

So the next time someone asks what President Obama and the Democrats in Congress have done for us lately, let them know they funded our local health clinic this year. This is especially important to remember when Frank Wolf - who voted against the stimulus bill - no doubt comes falsely claiming credit.
